What is Erasmus?

Erasmus program is  a student exchange program that has existed since the late 1980s and is run by the European Union. In addition to overseas education and internship opportunities for associate, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, the Erasmus program also includes projects and mobility for faculty members. The  program, which lasts between 3-12 months,   includes higher education institutions in 37 countries. The Erasmus program has the aim of contributing to the improvement and development of the quality of inter-university education by encouraging the cooperation of higher education institutions in European Union countries and candidate countries. At the same time, thanks to international exchanges, students are provided with the opportunity to experience abroad, get to know and learn about different cultures and lifestyles. Erasmus increases mobility between universities in Europe by covering the costs of research projects, academic curriculum development and training for students and faculty members.
